Our Story

Hemlock Hall's main lodge was built in 1898 as a private camp for Mickel and Clara Paul and was originally named Nawadaha, after an Ojibwe native. Wesley and Eleanor Webb purchased the lodge in 1948 as a vacation resort and renamed it Hemlock Hall. Throughout their many years at Hemlock Hall, they did extensive remodeling, building the motel units and many of the cabins. The resort now includes eight lodge rooms, four motel rooms, and ten cottages. L. Robert and Jacqueline Webb took over the resort in 1968, carrying on the established traditions for eighteen years.

Your current host, Paul Provost spent his childhood vacationing at Hemlock Hall with his family. Paul's father ran an accounting firm in Tupper Lake, and the Webb's were one of their clients. In 1986 when Paul learned that the Webb's were interested in selling Hemlock Hall, he and his late wife, Susan jumped on the opportunity to purchase the vacation spot they both loved.  Paul and Susan ran Hemlock together for 31 years. They raised their only child, Anthony, at Hemlock Hall where he too made summer friendships that would last a lifetime. Now Tony and his wife, Chelsea, have moved to Blue Mountain Lake and Tony helps manage the resort with Paul. Keeping with long standing traditions, the Provost’s continue to provide exceptional customer service to their summer tenants and have made many upgrades to the property, including adding balconies to many of the cabins, adding wood flooring and updating bathrooms in the motels and cabins. They also continue to serve fresh, right out of the oven, bread every evening, hearty family-style meals, warm cookies on Wednesdays, and the home away from home vacation that is synonymous with Hemlock Hall.

The Provost's and staff at Hemlock Hall look forward to seeing you!
